Distribution of Participants by College and Valid Retrieval Rate

A Chinese language version of the ILS was employed to measure students' Elsa Peretti Open Heart pendant styles in the current study. North Carolina State University gave permission to have the translation on the online version of the Felder-Soloman ILS. Two faculty members who were education psychologists served as experts to check the accuracy of the translation. They made minor modifications to the Chinese translation before the questionnaire was distributed.

Research Design

Because this was the first use of the Chinese version of the ILS, investigating the internal consistency and reliability of the ILS scores was one of the major tasks of the study. Cronbach's coefficient alpha values of the four scales had to be calculated. Assessing the validity and analyzing each item to determine the correlation between the question items and the dimensions of the ILS required a factor analysis. To identify in advance the problematic items that would cause low reliability of the instrument, SEM analysis was employed to provide the cross-examination information with factor analysis. A two-way ANOVA was also conducted to investigate whether there are statistically significant differences among the colleges and between genders.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

Internal Consistency Reliability

To evaluate the internal consistency reliability of the ELS scores, Cronbach's coefficient alpha was used for each dimension of the questionnaire. Table 2 shows the Return to Tiffany Oval tag bracelet of Cronbach's alpha of the current study with those of past studies (Litzinger et al., 2005).

According to Tuckman (1999), Cronbach's alpha for the instruments that measure knowledge and skills must be 0.75 or greater to be acceptable. Thus, for the instruments of attitude and preference assessments, Cronbach's alpha of 0.5 or greater is an acceptable value for the reliability test. In the current study the sensing-intuitive and the visualverbal dimensions thus satisfy the criterion. However, the active-reflective and sequential-global dimensions are only 0.48 and 0.41. Compared with the previous studies, the Cronbach's alpha score of the current study presents a similar pattern, even though the values are lower. Litzinger, Lee, Wise, and Felder (2007) pointed out that, "hecause reliability is a characteristic of the measurement on the specific sample under study, values of reliability coefficients for the ILS vary among the studies" (p. 314). Tuckman (1999) also mentioned that in a test with definite correct an incorrect answers (e.g., true/false or multiple choice) created to estimate the performance of participants or their skills, a higher correlation and Cronbach's alpha would be expected. If an instrument is designed to measure attitude or preference, such as the ILS, which contains dichotomous, forced-choice paired statements and no definite right or wrong answers, a lower correlation among the items and a lower Cronbach's alpha would be expected. Nevertheless, attempting to identify the problems and Elsa Peretti Open Heart ring a higher reliability are still important for the instrument design.

THE INDEX OF LEARNING STYLES

Felder and Soloman developed the ILS to evaluate the learning style Tiffany Knots ring formulated by Felder and Silverman in 1988 (Felder & Soloman, 2004). The Felder-Silverman learning style model defined four dimensions, each having two categories: perception (sensing/intuitive), input (visual/verbal), processing (active/reflective), and understanding (sequential/global). Learners should fit into one or the other category on each of the four dimensions. Thus, the Felder-Soloman ILS questionnaire consists of four parallel scales, with 11 items each, that are used to evaluate the four dimensions of the Felder-Silverman learning styles. Felder and Spurlin (2005) described the categories of the four dimensions as follows:

* sensing (concrete, practical, oriented toward facts and procedures) or intuitive (conceptual, innovative, oriented toward theories and underlying meanings)

* visual (prefer visual representations of Return to Tiffany Heart tag necklace material, such as pictures, diagrams, and flow charts) or verbal (prefer written and spoken explanations)

* active (learn by trying things out, enjoy working in groups) or reflective (learn by thinking things through, prefer working alone or with one or two familiar partners)

* sequential (linear thinking process, learn in incremental steps) or global (holistic thinking process, learn in large leaps)

Theoretically, all the dimensions are parallel, and a student's learning styles should be well distributed among the four dimensions. Each individual should have his or her own learning styles, and the ILS should be able to provide that personal information to students and instructors. Even though providing an individual student-centered approach is becoming a very popular practice in education, Felder and Brent (2005) pointed out, "If it is pointless to consider tailoring instruction to each individual student, it is equally misguided to imagine that a single one-size-fits-all approach to teaching can meet the needs of every student" (p. 57). Especially in Asian countries, the concept of an individual student-centered approach in instruction is only in the beginning stage. In Taiwan, few Return to Tiffany styles or cognitive styles inventories have been introduced. Hence, not only constantly publicizing this concept, but also providing a well-translated instrument, is critical.

CHINESE LANGUAGE VERSION FOR LATE ADOLESCENTS OF TAIWANESE

Discovering learning styles to facilitate teaching and learning is always a critical issue in the field of Return to Tiffany Heart tag ring. Keefe (1979) defined learning styles as "characteristic cognitive, affective, and psychological behaviors that serve as relatively stable indicators of how learners perceive, interact with, and respond to the learning environment" (p. 4). Numerous studies have focused on this issue in various ways, and researchers have developed many instruments to classify learning styles. The Felder-Solomon Index of Learning Styles (ILS) is one of them. Since its publication in 1991, numerous researchers have investigated subjects related to it. Although the ILS was designed for engineering students, it has in fact been used to assess learning styles in many different disciplines and is gaining in popularity. According to Litzinger, Lee, Wise, and Felder (2005), since the online version of the ILS appeared, its site has received more than 100,000 visits per year, and many published studies have used the data.

Due to the obstacle of language, even Paloma Picasso Double Loving Heart ring some Taiwanese scholars have translated the ILS into Chinese for their own classes or studies, it has never been officially introduced to Taiwanese students. For the current study permission was acquired from North Carolina State University to translate the ILS into Chinese and to use the data analysis to help Taiwanese college students learn and teachers teach. Because the ILS has never been tested by Taiwanese students on a large enough scale, and because of language and cultural barriers, the translated test items might not present the complete meaning of the original ILS to the testers. According to Felder (2002), the ILS "has been translated into half a dozen languages that I know about and probably more that I don't, even though it has not yet been validated" (p. 1). Therefore, the primary goals of the current study were to investigate the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the ILS. In addition, various statistical analyses Tiffany Somerset ring the problematic items for further modification.

DeFrank caps championship season in style

Having already clinched the 2009 NHRA Lucas Oil Super Stock championship a Tiffany Notes band ring earlier, Jimmy DeFrank should have been able to enjoy a relaxing weekend at the season-ending Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals; however, he still had one item left on his to-do list: a national event victory. DeFrank won his third NHRA Super Stock title and posted an impressive score of 712 points but was limited to three runner-up finishes at national events. He rectified that problem by taking his 10th career win following a red-light start by final-round opponent Bob Bales in the final run of the season. The win also helped take the sting out of a final-round loss in Stock minutes earlier.

"It was awesome to win the championship, and we had a great year, but coming into this race, it did cross my mind that we hadn't won a national event," said DeFrank. "Other than winning in Stock, I couldn't have dreamed of a better way to end the season. I've always done well in Pomona, and this is also my 10th win, which was important. It was a great way to put an exclamation point on the season."

DeFrank was admittedly disappointed in his driving early in the race, but by the time he reached Sunday's final eliminations, he had resolved his earlier starting-line issues. He also got a little help from five of his seven opponents, including Bales, who fouled against his SS/BS Cobalt.

"I got so many breaks in this race, but I'm proud that we made good runs when we needed them," said DeFrank. "I drove poorly in the first two rounds, but a lot of that was because I have been working hard to resolve some issues with our Stocker, and that threw me off a little. I finally got my head on straight, and [engine builder and mentor] Jeff Taylor was right there to help me. He helped me calm down and focus, and that's probably the main reason why I was able to go to two final rounds.

"In the final, I had just let go of the [transbrake] button and was focused on my side of the Tree when I noticed that my win light was on," DeFrank said. "After losing the Stock final, it was great to get another shot so soon. I've always said that the Finals is the best race of the Tiffany 1837 Lock bracelet to win because you can't get beat again for two months."

The key race: DeFrank had a .017-second package in his semifinal race against Jody Lang and needed all of it because Lang was just a few thousandths behind with a .024 package of his own. "That was one of the best races I've been in all year," said DeFrank. "He's so tough to beat, but I managed to hit the brakes just enough to get the win."

The runner-up: On the 20th anniversary of his first national event win at the 1989 NHRA Finals, retired prison warden Bales returned to the final round with his GT/CA Pontiac. This time, Bales drove a solid race that included wins over former national champion Bo Butner, Sport Compact ace Scott Kelley, and former national event winner Bob Fordyce. His best performance came in the quarterfinals, where he had a .005 light against Fordyce.

Fast facts: The 69-car field included eight former national champions: Darren Smith, Butner, Gary Stinnett, Don Keen, Taylor, Michael Iacono, Dan Fletcher, and DeFrank. ... Bob Dennis topped the qualifying chart with his GT/MA Olds.

Did you know: DeFrank has now finished in the top 10 for 13 of the last 15 years and has finished fifth or higher 10 times.

Quotable: "I was very, very upset when I lost in Stock, and then I had to make sure I didn't lose both Elsa Peretti Teardrop ring, so I took a few moments to get myself composed, took a few deep breaths, and then went back up for the Super Stock final. Thankfully, I didn't lose that one, too." - Jimmy DeFrank

STYLE SHOW BENEFITS FUTURE STUDENTS

While models wearing the latest fashions strutted on a runway at Indiana State Tiffany 1837 cuff, students working backstage experienced a culmination of their university education.

Indiana State textile, apparel and merchandising students unveiled spring fashions for the Terre Haute community during the Elegance Unmasked style show on Nov. 21. The style show benefited a scholarship fund for textile, apparel and merchandising students.

"I honestly feel like I'm leaving a legacy behind," said Chris Jones, a senior from Bridgeton, who is graduating in December.

Lessons learned while studying at Indiana State helped students in developing the show.

Jones' experience working behind the scenes during the Atlanta Apparel Market style show in 2008 along with watching the same show in October 2009 helped him as he created the stage design for ISU's show.

"I saw the behind the scenes, the chaos of it," he said. "This year, I got to watch. You can't tell that it's a hot mess backstage - that a top is missing or they can't find a shoe."

Additionally, the simplicity of the stage design really struck him.

"We had planned to really dress up the stage," he said about planning ISU's show. "Their stage was pretty basic. The focus is to be on the Somerset basic hoop earrings."

That realization caused the students to scale back designs for the ISU stage and runway design so their show would also focus on the clothes.

"These beautiful fashions are out of Montreal, Germany and the United States," said Cheryl Kremer, assistant professor of family and consumer sciences, in introducing the style show. "These are fashions you won't see in Terre Haute."

Fashions moved from jeans, skirts and jackets embroidered with brightly colored flowers to tunic tops worn over leggings as models from Indiana State and the local community strutted down the runway. Popular colors for spring fashion include purple and greens as well as jewel tones of red, blues and pinks.

Audience members snapped photos of their favorite outfits as the models walked past.

But when the last model exited the stage, the result came down as hands-on event experience for students who hope to make the fashion industry their careers. Though students experienced working apparel markets in Chicago and Atlanta, putting together their own show added to their experience gained.

Students recruited other students, family and Terre Haute community members to participate as models in the show. Fashion merchandising students worked in all aspects to bring the show together from applying make up to putting together music to helping the models quickly change outfits.

Stacey Morris, a senior textile and apparel merchandising student from Gary, said the ISU show provided great experience for the students.

"This is a field I want to go into," she said and Toggle bracelet it as a resume builder.

Morris, who worked behind the scenes in preparing for the 2009 Atlanta Apparel Mart's fashion show in October, said the two shows prepared her for the future. She now understands what goes into setting up a show, arranging clothes for the show as well as promoting it.

CAREER CRIMINAL CONVICTED

Attorney General Thurbert Baker announced that his office had successfully Tiffany Somerset Bangle on appeal to the Eleventh Court of Appeals in Atlanta the denial of federal habeas corpus relief to Emanuel Hammond who received the death penalty for the 1988 kidnapping and murder of preschool teacher Julie Love. While Hammond can move to reconsider the November 4, 2009 order of the 11th Circuit, only that or an appeal to the United States Supreme Court remains before an execution date can be set for Hammond in the Superior Court of Fulton County.

The Eleventh Circuit rejected Hammond's arguments that Hammond's defense attorney provided ineffective assistance at trial. The federal appeals court agreed with the arguments made by the Attorney General's office and found that Hammond had failed to establish that there were any constitutional problems with either his conviction or his death sentence. The appellate court also rejected Hammond's arguments that he was harmed by not receiving additional information from the Fulton County prosecution team prior to his trial.

Baker, in announcing the appellate victory, stated that he was pleased that the state "was close to seeing justice done in this case. Hammond is a violent, career criminal Tiffany 1837 ring fully deserves the death penalty for this senseless and heinous crime."

The federal appeals court decision confirms the heinous nature of Hammond's crimes. Not only does the opinion describe the terror and torture that Hammond subjected Love to during the kidnapping, but also describing how forensic reconstruction of Love's skull had demonstrated that Hammond had killed Love with a close-up blast from his twelve-gauge sawed-off shotgun. Hammond even bragged to his accomplices of the destructive results of the shotgun blast after his execution style murder of Julie Love. After describing a 1982 kidnapping that Hammond had participated in but in which he failed to kill the victim, the appeals court stated that, from the evidence in the record, "this was the last time [Hammond's] conscience would Tiffany Keys Crown key pendant an appearance." A copy of the 11th Circuit's opinion can be found here.

How Stephenie Meyer Cramps My Style

The main thing about Stephenie Meyer, aside from her being a megaselling author and probably more popular than the Beatles Elsa Peretti Starfish earrings the Beatles were bigger than Jesus? She's making my life really hard.

Four years ago I became a literary agent, and ever since then, writers have made certain charitable assumptions about me. They expect me to know things. They ask questions. They invite me to appear at conferences to share my expertise. Occasionally I even teach an online course called, ambitiously, How to Get Published. The #1 question I am asked by these aspiring writers? "How do I break in?"

A loaded question, if ever there was one, but over time I came up with a nearly airtight answer. I quoted Malcolm Gladwell's 10,000 Hours of Practice rule. I told of the 100-some rejection letters F. Scott Fitzgerald nailed to the wall of his office before having his first story accepted. I dilated upon the image of a young Ben Franklin, rewriting articles from the Spectator as poetry and back into crystal-clear prose late into the night. I extolled virtues so stolid they sounded like 17th-century Pilgrim names: Patience! Diligence! Faith! I imagined my listeners, teary-eyed and chastised, readying themselves for years of persistent toil before the golden day of their first acceptance by the grace of an editor or agent.

And then I learned the story of how Stephenie Meyer broke in.

Are you familiar with the Twilight origin story? Articulated on the bio section of Meyer's Web site, it is a tale that nearly beggars belief, containing echoes of beginner's luck, Don Larsen throwing a perfect game in the 1956 World Series, and Sarah Palin almost becoming vice-president: a combination of inexperience, mediocrity, and success so spectacular as to turn all received wisdom on its head.

It goes something like this: one night Meyer had a dream, feverishly wrote the complete manuscript of Tiffany Signature ring over the next three months, sent it to several literary agencies, accepted representation from one of the biggest in New York, sold her series at auction for a then-unprecedented $750,000 advance, in due course knocked J.K. Rowling from her top spot on the bestseller list, and in the space of four years became the world's most popular author.

Here is a list of common tropes conspicuously absent from that story: learning how to write; persistence in the face of rejection; years of unrewarded toil; invaluable help from a critique group; hard work; a moment in which the author Does Some Soul Searching and Nearly Quits. Also, editing.

This last omission is probably the most remarkable, the crowning way in which Meyer and Twilight have proven the exception to nearly every so-called rule of the publishing business. With a self-effacing chuckle and a grateful nod to their editors, most famous writers later explain how their early drafts were overwritten, melodramatic, flatly characterized, heavily expository and indifferently written, only to emerge as being of recognizable quality in the late editorial stages. Meyer has sidestepped this inconveniently collaborative process by simply having her early drafts published, warts and all, and to no obvious disadvantage.

Given the phenomenal success of Meyer's series, the passion her work inspires in fans, and her unusual rise to the top, it becomes clear that Stephenie Meyer-how best to say this?-knows something we don't. You first see it in her author photo (seated, couch), which captures a look somewhat reminiscent of da Vinci's Mona Lisa : the close-mouthed, mysterious smile; the wise eyes hinting at possession of some enigma that cannot be divulged. Whatever it is, it's better than The Secret and more optimistic than He's Just Not That into You . Meyer can make immortal vampires love clumsy, awkward teenage girls; 800-page hardcovers profitable; and independent film adaptations compete with the likes of Titanic at the box office. Is there Tiffany Circle clasp necklace she can't do?

Which brings me back to that nagging problem I mentioned earlier. Every time an unpublished writer asks me for advice on how to break into the business now, I have a new response, but it's such a lame hedge that I'm afraid I'm going to bomb at conferences. "Read till you nearly go blind; write till your fingers are numb. Be ready to face years of rejection." And after a pause and a sigh, I add: "Or just wait for a dream to hit you and transcribe a phenomenal worldwide bestseller in three months' time. Either way." It's the best answer I've got, these days.

Remains of Minoan-style painting discovered during excavations of Canaanite palace

The remains of a Minoan-style wall painting, recognizable Tiffany Cushion Hoop earrings a blue background, the first of its kind to be found in Israel, was discovered in the course of the recent excavation season at Tel Kabri. This fresco joins others of Aegean style that have been uncovered during earlier seasons at the Canaanite palace in Kabri. "It was, without doubt, a conscious decision made by the city's rulers who wished to associate with Mediterranean culture and not adopt Syrian and Mesopotamian styles of art like other cities in Canaan did. The Canaanites were living in the Levant and wanted to feel European," explains Dr. Assaf Yasur-Landau of the University of Haifa, who directed the excavations.

The remains of a Canaanite city from the Middle Bronze Age (2000-1550 B.C.) have been exposed at Tel Kabri, next to Kibbutz Kabri near Nahariya. A palace for the city's rulers stands in the center of the city, which was the most important of the cities in the Western Galilee during that period. Excavations began at Tel Kabri in 1986, conducted by the late Prof. Aharon Kempinski, and were halted in 1993. Over the past years, excavations have been renewed by teams directed by Dr. Yasur-Landau of the Leon Recanati Institute for Maritime Studies at the University of Haifa and Prof. Eric Cline of The George Washington University. Tel Kabri is unique in that after the city was deserted, no other city was built over its remains. Therefore, this is the only Canaanite city that can be excavated in its entirety. The palace too, which has been measured with geophysical tools at 1 to 1.5 acres, is the only such palace of this period that can be excavated fully. "The city's preservation enables us to get a complete picture of political and social life in the Canaanite period. We can reveal whether or not it had a central government, whether taxes were levied, what sort of agriculture there was and how politics were conducted at the time," Dr. Yasur-Landau Elsa Peretti Open Heart charm.

The recent excavation season has enabled researchers to conclude what the rulers' cultural preferences were. While excavations at Tel Hazor in the northern Galilee, the largest Canaanite city of that period, revealed numerous remains of sculpture works of Syrian and Mesopotamian style, no such evidence of this style of artwork were discovered at Tel Kabri. Until now the remains of a fresco in a style that had been common on the island of Santorini (Thera), discovered during previous seasons at the Tel Kabri site, might have been considered a solitary occurrence. However, the remains of additional works reinforce the conjecture that this was a city that not only had trade relations with Mediterranean kingdoms, but also preferred to be culturally associated with them. "Unlike Hazor, which held trading and cultural ties with Syria and Mesopotamia, the rulers of the city at Tel Kabri consciously chose the Mediterranean alternative, relating to Aegean cultures, which doubtlessly seemed more exotic to the local inhabitants," Dr. Yasur-Landau explains.

Additional findings during the past season illuminate other angles of day-to-day life in the Canaanite city. The researchers discovered that the rulers confiscated privately owned lands in order to build both the palace and a ceremonial path encircling the palace. The researchers also began digging a corridor that had been discovered last year and found tens of pottery vessels there, such as storage jars, shallow bowls, cups, and jugs. The corridor, which probably served as a storage area, was blocked off by the Elsa Peretti Starfish necklace inhabitants, and therefore remnants of the substances held in these pottery vessels still remains, as did many animal bones. "We sent the bones and substance remains to be examined, so we should soon be able to know more about the standard diet of that time and in this particular area," Dr. Yasur-Landau added.
